Gustav II Adolf The future Swedish King Gustav Adolf from his youth was accustomed to his father Charles IX to engage in public affairs and showed brilliant talent. He knew very well the theology, history, spoke eight languages, but his greatest passion was a military matter. They write that in his childhood he was ready to spend hours listening to stories about the exploits of ancient heroes. The beginning of his reign was very difficult. Mother and cousin Johan, Duke Ostgotlandsky, challenged his authority, but Gustav acted wisely and nobly, they soon had to give up their claims. In December 1611 the Riksdag proclaimed him king.
