I WANTED TO BE A PART OF THINGS
Geoff Gibson’s Story
This is an honest and moving account of a child who fell victim to alcoholism and his struggle, through adolescence and into adulthood, to overcome it. Geoff’s story, though tragic, is in parts humorous and ultimately, as he achieves sobriety, carries a message of hope in his continuing commitment to help others.
Beneath the surface lies a stark reminder of the failings within our society, where young children can ‘slip through the net’ and where bureaucracy and an emphasis on qualifications supersede the worth of ‘caring’ people and common sense.
For those who suffer with an addiction, for family and friends of addicts and for people who want to help, including those working within ‘the system’ who have become ‘bogged down’ with bureaucracy, this is an excellent read.
