Book review

Before phalanx 'copper warriors' skirmishing fled naked poor - they had only a sling, which they hurled at enemies on fire burnt clay balls. Hail stones drumming on their shields and helmets; then began a brutal slaughter, under the battle-axes and shields scattered bones cracked. The prisoners did not take; defeated fled to the protection of the walls of the city, and began the siege, which rarely leads to success: the Sumerians was not yet siege equipment. Standing for several months under the walls of the city, the winners went to after the harvest to start all over again. When the city finally managed to storm, began the massacre, men, children, old men, old women fell under the battle-axes; streets and squares were filled with corpses. Women were raped and knitted belts; they waited for the fate of slaves and concubines: they had to appease their new owners, to dance and to sing a song for them.
