In Germany at that time, as in other Western European countries, shaped by social class structure of society, but with their own specific features. In France, for example, the feudal class replaced the vassal-fief hierarchy, in Germany they were formed from within the hierarchy and presented some of its "shields". There was not a single social class system as a single state organization. The Empire developed imperial state in princes - zemstvo. The former belonged to the imperial princes, knights and imperial imperial city, to the second - the nobility and the clergy zemstvos (Duchy) and the citizens of princely cities imperial state significantly differed from Zemsky. Strictly speaking, it was not even a class, and grades (so they officially considered), it has a certain sovereignty. Their common feature was a direct submission to the king (emperor). Imperial city were represented by their magistrates collectively officials and citizens themselves in their mass does not enjoy a special privileged status.
